The available features
include power control (on, off, and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)), local
current & voltage fault detection, and operation with a system level Power
Management Application (PMA). PWM operation is configurable to various levels
and ramp-up slopes. The SIMPCU has built-in fault detection (thresholds
and maturation timing are configurable). Extreme faults are handled locally at
the SIMPCU. In an extreme fault, the SIMPCU will locally process and react to
extreme and potentially damaging situations within milliseconds and the fault is
immediately reported to the PMA. Subtle or matured faults are used to detect
loads that are starting to exhibit operational degradation. This
diagnostic & prognostic information is
processed to offer “condition based maintenance” - an optimized balance
between unnecessary scheduled maintenance and maintenance due to failure. The
SIMPCU has built-in CAN communications, so it can be used within a managed
and optimized power system. If CAN communication is lost or damaged, the
SIMPCU will revert to local, robust operation, which can be configured. The SIMPCU consists of a Power Board capable controlling
current in excess of 100 Amps and power in excess of 5 KW.
The PCU Enables System-Level:
- Situational Awareness
- Condition Based Maintenance
- Diagnostics / Prognostics
- Automated Maintenance Operations
- Automated form 2404 Generation
- Power Management
- Mode-Based Load Control
- Load Prioritization
- Load Shedding
- Load Reconstitution
- Power Optimization
- Power Integration
- Controls Precise Power Contribution and
Management from Power Generation and Energy Storage
Devices
- Subsystem Control
- Such as Thermal Management Systems
- Safety & Survivability
- Configurability
- Planning & Training
- After Action Reporting
At the Point of Load, the PCU Provides:
- Interconnectivity (CAN Communication)
- Real-time Local Load Control
- Load Protection
- Locally validates extreme load conditions within
milliseconds
- Key settings are reconfigurable over CAN
- Reverse Battery Protection
- Elimination of In-rush Transients
- with Soft Start and Soft Stop
The PCU is a control module that can be customized to
work directly with energy storage and power generation
devices.

The SIMPCU can be
networked on the CAN bus to work in concert with
many SIMRIOs and many other CAN devices to provide
data collection and control for power management
applications. The SIMPCU could relay data to a
SIMPMC which in turn can translate to many other
networks and protocols including wireless ethernet,
USB, Zigbee, as well as industrial networks such as
Modbus, LonWorks, BACnet, Ethernet/IP, Metasys, DH+,
Profibus, ControlNet, SNMP, etc. |
